A Winter Walk
An ode to nature's stillness.
Author’s note: A soft winter piece for a slow day tucked under warm blankets. An ode to nature’s stillness, frost’s quiet shimmer, and the small miracles found on a cold early morning walk.
A Winter Walk
Strolling amongst the trees,
ears alert for poetic words,
listening for the lullaby of fallen leaves —
softly, they whisper their songs.
Lyrics I tuck close to my breast,
scattering hope
with their warm words
in the whispering breeze.
The frost covers the leaves
with a silvery sheen.
Nefeli, the nymph of the clouds,
abandons the sky
to search for her golden ribbon,
gifting the vast blue blanket
to the sun.
Wisps of icy air
sting the tips of my ears
as crisp air fills my lungs,
and the crows nod their hellos.
The trees patiently wait
for spring to come —
to once more adorn
their luxurious green gowns.
Frosty crystals form on the lake,
awaiting Ophelia’s garland
to emerge from winters past,
as summer’s song is sung by sparrows
and the sun
finally tucks winter away.

Maria, you have beautifully brought "Nefeli and Ophelia" to life in your poem. Through these two figures, you have given the poem a dreamlike and emotional portrayal of nature’s serene beauty, hope, and the promise of new beginnings, touching the reader’s heart and making them feel the small wonders hidden in the quiet winter world.
Beautiful. I love the cold❤️
